President Obama Canceled Meeting With Philippines President Duterte

US President Barack Obama has canceled the meeting with Philippines President Duterte, after Duterte described Obama in vulgar terms, confirmed the Ned Price, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council.

Reports said that on Monday, while talking to the reporters President Duterte used objectionable Filipino phrase for ‘Son of a b…’ for the US President. The two leaders were scheduled to meet in the South Asian Leader’s annual summit in Laos.

US President Obama found out about the insult in Hangzhou, China, where he went to attend the annual G20 Summit. Reports said that Obama asked his aides to speak with Philippine officials ‘to find out is this, in fact, a time where we can have some constructive, productive conversations’.

Obama told reporters, “I always want to make sure that if I’m having a meeting, that is actually productive and we’re getting something done.” Obama will now meet South Korean President Park Geun-hye, where the issue of North Korea’s recent missile test is expected to be on the table.

This is not the first time, when President Duterte has used explicit words for the top personalities. He had called Pope Francis a ‘son of a w…’ in May and US Ambassador Philip Goldberg a ‘gay son of a w…’
