US Expresses Displeasure Over Pakistan’s Nuclear Threat To India

Days after the Pakistan Defense minister Khawaja Asif’s nuclear threats to India, if it commences war on Pakistan, the United States has expressed displeasure over the statement by a top leadership of Pakistan and has objected on it.

A senior State Department official said, “We made that (American objection on nuclear threat) clear to them (Pakistan). Repeatedly.”

Asif had asserted that Pakistan will use nuclear weapons against India twice in last 15 days. The State Department official said, “It is very concerning. It is a serious threat.”

In the latest interview to Pakistani news channel Asif had said, “We will destroy India if it dares to impose war on us. Pakistan army is fully prepared to answer any misadventure of India.”

He had added, “We have not made atomic device to display in a showcase. If a such a situation arises we will use it (nuclear weapons) and eliminate India.”

The statement has raised the eyebrows of many in Obama Administration and seen as an ‘irresponsible’ behavior by Pakistani official.

By maintaining that US always monitors the safety and security of the nuclear weapons in Pakistan, a State Department official on condition of anonymity said, “The safety of these weapons is always a concern for us. So we are always monitoring it, regardless of what they said on this particular occasion.”
