US NSA Calls Doval; Condemned Uri Attack

The National Security Adviser (NSA) of the United States by expressing strong concerns over cross-border terrorism spreading from the Pakistani soil condemned the Uri Attack in a meeting with her Indian counterpart Ajit Doval.

The NSA, Susan E. Rice, according to the reports, has expressed concerns on Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s description of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani as ‘young leader murdered by the Indian security forces’ in Jammu and Kashmir in his address to the UN General Assembly last week, which was strongly oppose by India.

In a statement National Security Council spokesperson Ned Price said, “Highlighting the danger that cross-border terrorism poses to the region, Ambassador Rice reiterated our expectation that Pakistan take effective action to combat and delegitimize United Nations-designated terrorist individuals and entities, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Muhammad, and their affiliates.”

Mr. Price further added that Ms. Rice strongly condemned the September 18 cross-border attack on the Indian Army Brigade headquarters in Uri and offered condolences to the victims and their families.

Reports said that the NSA also discussed the shared commitment of both countries to deepen collaboration of counter-terrorism matters ‘including on UN terrorist designation’.
