US Not To Intervene In Kashmir Issue Despite Pakistan’s Continuous Urging

The United States has again snubbed Pakistan on the Kashmir issue and reiterated its stand it won’t intervene in the Kashmir issue as the country feels that the issue should be solved bilaterally between India and Pakistan.

During the press briefing, US State Department Spokesperson John Kirby said, “Want this (Kashmir issue) to be worked out between both sides, we want to see the tensions that exist right now be brought down and for dialogue to take its place - meaningful dialogue to try to address these issues bilaterally between the countries.”

Earlier, Elizabeth Trudeau of the US State Department expressed the similar sentiments and said that the Kashmir is a bilateral issue and should be solved between the two countries with the help of communication.

She had said, “The pace, the scope, the character of any discussions in Kashmir is for the two sides to determine. We support any and all positive steps that India and Pakistan can take to forge closer relations.”

Pakistan has been continuously urging the international community to intervene in the Kashmir issue after the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani and has been alleging violations of human rights in the valley.

However, it had to face backlash from most of the countries as several countries openly said that Pakistan should take action against the terrorists on their soil. Earlier, the president of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) plainly refused to speak on the question related to Kashmir issue, asked by the Pakistani journalist and said that the UNSC is not discussing the Kashmir issue. Several countries has also backed India for conducting surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across Line of Control (LoC).

Pakistan, earlier, threatened that US is not the only super-power in the world and it can approach China and Russia if it doesn’t get any support from the United States on the Kashmir issue, citing the recent joint military exercise between the forces of Pakistan and Russia.
