Goa Preparing For International Yoga Day Celebration

The second International Yoga Day on June 21 will be celebrated in one of the most laving attraction of the tourists, Goa said chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Sunday.

Parsekar said, “The people of India can all come together and be united with yoga. We can pass this heritage to other countries. Yoga vidhi is the way to go.”

He further added that the art of yoga must not be limited only to yoga day and cited examples of many who include yoga as part of their morning prayer sessions.

On the occasion, Department of Sports will organize various yoga programs in twelve talukas in the state. For the students of Scouts and Guides, National service scheme etc. various special programs will also be arranged.

The main event will be held at Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Stadium, Dona Paula from 7.30 am onward, according to reports.

Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, “Attendees can participate in the day long event according to the timings that suits one’s needs.”

Previously huge controversy had erupted as government allegedly made compulsory for all to chant Om and perform Suryanamaskar (Sun salutation) and it was allegedly blamed to be forced on the minority community to perform yoga.

Asking on the same, Parsekar said, “There is nothing wrong in saying Om by those who want to. Similarly, people who aren’t comfortable, need not to say it.”

On December 11, 2014 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) recognized the international Yoga day and since then it has been celebrated on June 21.
