Indian Navy has started a four-year program to start its own ocean sailing team which will participate in ocean sailing competitions and win medals at 2018 Asian Games and 2020 Olympic Games. The Indian Navy has already sanctioned Rs. 6 crore for the same, according to the reports.

According to the reports, Indian Navy is highly serious about the project as it has recruited civilians who are serious sailors for training. The Navy has said that they intend to compete in The 49er class, the 470 class championship, the Laser class and the RS:X class.

A naval officer said, “The RS:X team is based here in Vasco, Goa and is training under Donald Coelho. His son Dwayne Coelho is an award winning national champion in RS:X class.”

The naval officer who is a part of Indian Navy’s sailing division announced the project at the commemoration of the completion of the all women crews’ maiden ocean trip. He said, “Let me say that it is a difficult task. But we have to try” while announcing that the Navy has already started a campaign to build a team which will qualify for Asian Games.
