Auto Strike In City Causes Difficulty For The Public

The Auto and Taxi union of Delhi went on an indefinite strike on Tuesday against the app-based taxis causing difficulty for the thousands of commuters as well as local public in the city.

Twenty unions of autos and taxis have formed a join action committee stating that around 85,000 autos and 15,000 taxis have gone off from the roads in the city.

The strike has created difficulties for many people and the commuters in areas such as Connaught place, Railway stations and ISBTs

President of All Delhi Auto-Taxi Transport Congress Union (ADATTCU), Krishna Verma said, “Uber and Ola don’t have permit to run the taxis in Delhi but despite that the government is allowing them to take away our livelihood.”

Reports said that it is perhaps for the first time that unions backed by the BJP and Congress, in the city, have come together and joined the protests and strikes.

Rajendra Soni, president of Autorickshaw Sangh and Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union, backed by the RSS said, “Government has assured us on several occasions that it will take action against app-based taxi services, but they have not fulfilled their commitment so far.”

On the other hand government has maintained that stand that the strike in politically sponsored and banning the operation of app-based cab services does not come under its ambit and instead Center should do something to counter this issue.
