‘Panic Button’ in Mobiles To Come From January 1

The Delhi Police told the High Court on Wednesday that the ‘Panic Button’ will be coming in the mobile phones from January 1, 2017 to help people in distress, especially women.

The Delhi Police has informed the bench of Justices BD Ahmed and Ashutosh Kumar that it has also planned to do away with all existing emergency number such as 100, 101, 102 and 108 and to introduce a single emergency number 112.

Explaining it further, the Delhi Police has said that until 112 number is implemented all the existing numbers will be re-routed to 100.

In the affidavit, Delhi Police has said that they are examining a comparative study of response time of other police forces in major metropolitan cities across the world to evolve a strategy to deal with the situation.
