The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday has issued showcause notices to 27 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs on the basis the of the new petition forwarded by the President for demanding their disqualification for allegedly holding office of profit.
The 27 MLAs also includes seven legislators against whom the EC is already considering a similar plea for holding the office of parliamentary secretaries. The list contains the names of Ram Niwas Goel, his deputy Rakhi Birla, former deputy speaker Bandana Kumari and estranged AAP MLA Pankaj Pushkar.
The EC has given time to the MLAs to file their response by November 11.
According to the petitioner, all the MLAs hold posts of chairpersons of Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS)s of different government hospitals in Delhi.
RKS was established by the Sheila Dikshit government on October 5, 2009, while assuring that the complaint will be resolved in due course of time.
