Facebook Added Payment Support Through Chatbots To Its Messenger App

The Facebook Messenger has not the much awaited payment support feature which will allow the businesses to sell their products directly on the Facebook Messenger app.

While announcing the new feature, Facebook said in a statement, “We’re kicking off the beginning of the messages with payments that will allow businesses to sell their products and services directly to customers in Messenger.”

“Customers can check out with few easy clicks, without ever leaving the Messenger app,” added the statement.

Reports said that the announcement suggested that Facebook may be able to monetize its free messaging app service, which is used by over a billion people, by making it and e-commerce platform.

Earlier, Facebook had opened its Messenger app for the developers and asked them to create new applications and bots. These bots can provide information, although customers who wanted to make a purchase had to be directed to an external website.

Company added that the developers have created 30,000 bots for Messenger and many other developers are still working on Messenger.

The statement further reads, “We believe the potential for the Messenger platform is huge, and we continue to invest in making it better for developers to build and create.”

It added, “Moving forward, we are also simplifying the payment and checkout experience in order to reduce the overall friction between wanting something and getting it. People can use their payment information already stored on Messenger and Facebook to check out faster in Messenger threads.”
