MEA Creates Common Platform For All Its Social Media Handles Through A Facebook App

Ministry of External Affairs has taken a step forward in its digital media presence as the MEA launched a Facebook app to integrate all its social media handles of 170 Indian missions in various countries on a same platform to expand its public outreach.

The app will help the people to access digital presence of Indian missions abroad and the Ministry of External Affairs through a range of social media platforms without visiting their individual websites.

Speaking on the app, which has been developed in cooperation with Facebook, External ministry official spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, “The app is one shop stop to find social media handles of Twitter, YouTube and websites of all Indian missions abroad.”

Public policy director of Facebook of India and South and Central Asia, Ankhi Das, said on the occasion that no terrorists contents are allowed by Facebook as it does not allow valorization of terror.

She further complimented the External Affairs ministry for its social media outreach and said that Facebook has made the app for free. Currently over 165 Indian missions and posts are on Twitter and 172 on Facebook, while 124 have their websites and many of them their YouTube channels.

The app contains a world map where the user is just have to tap on a particular country and all the information of social platforms of the mission in the country will get opened on screen.

Swarup said, “I think it is also in sync with the activism that our Foreign Minister herself has shown on Twitter where every night she reaches out to people who send out their messages (for help).”
