De-Register Over 10 Years Old Diesel Vehicle: NGT TO RTO Delhi

National Green Tribunal (NGT) has order the Road Transport Office (RTO) of the city to de-register all the diesel vehicles over 10 years old, according to the reports.

A bench headed by the NGT chief Justice Swatanter Kumar said, “We hereby direct RTO, Delhi to deregister all diesel vehicles which are more than 10 years old.”

NGT added that RTO should inform police about the same to take the further action. After the de-registration, the RTO will issue public notice in this regard and will provide the list to Delhi Traffic Police which will take appropriate action according to the NGT’s ruling.

The judgment came after the tribunal noticed that it has been continuously put forward by the Delhi Police to stop vehicles which were more than 10 Years old from plying on the roads of the city.

The bench said, “But they have hardly met any success. It is also stated that vehicles are released by the magistrates after imposing fine under the Motor Vehicle Act and the vehicles surface again on the roads.”

The NGT has also asked the Delhi government and other authorities to create awareness among the people about vehicular pollution caused by the heavy fuel gas emission from the vehicles and burning municipal solid waste.

It has also ordered the Delhi government as well as center and Central Pollution Control Board to submit a report on scrapping old vehicles among the total number of vehicles and incentives for disposing old vehicle.
