Shiv Sena workers storm Mumbai BCCI office to protest Indo-Pak cricket meet

Shiv Sena workers today stormed the office of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Mumbai to protest against the BCCI officials meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Shahryar Khan. Khan and the head of the PCB's executive committee Najam Sethi have arrived in India in a bid to discuss and convince the BCCI to confirm the India-Pakistan cricket series in December.

Khan and Sethi are expected to meet the new BCCI President Shashank Manohar and Secretary Anurag Thakur along with other government officials in New Delhi.

"The trip is being made on the invitation of Shashank Manohar who took over as the new Indian cricket chief," an official in the PCB said. "The PCB is mentally prepared to even settle for a shorter series, but want it to be Pakistan's home series and in the UAE," a PCB source was quoted by PTI.

Sena activists were seen crashing through the gates of the office in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium that serves as the headquarters of the Board for Control of Cricket in India.

The activists shouted anti-Pakistan slogans and were determined to stop Mr Manohar from meeting the Pakistan cricket board chief to discuss a bilateral series in December.

Talks on an India-Pakistan series is cancelled this morning in Mumbai as the activists of the Shiv Sena broke into the office of India's cricket board, just before its chief Shashank Manohar was to meet with his Pakistani counterpart Shahryar Khan.

Rajeev Shukla, who has been the BCCI office bearer and is presently the chief operating officer of the Indian Premier League (IPL) condemned the move by Shiv Sena on his Twitter page, “Strongly condemns the attack on the BCCI Office by Shiv Sena.”
