Gambhir Makes Return To Indian Team For Remaining Two Tests Against NZ

Indian opener from Delhi has made a return to the Indian squad for the remaining two Tests against New Zealand, after KL Rahul, who was suffering with hamstring injury after the first Test, has been ruled out of the Test series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday said, “BCCI medical team has confirmed that team India opener, KL Rahul has an injury in his right hamstring and he is ruled out for the remainder of the Paytm Test series against New Zealand. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Gautam Gambhir as Rahul's replacement for the next two Test matches.”

According to the reports, Gautam Gambhir who had a tremendous form in the recent Duleep Trophy, has been chosen ahead of Abhinav Mukund for the remaining Tests. The second Kolkata Test will be played at Eden Gardens from September 30.

Another surprising name has entered the India squad is of off-spinner Jayant Yadav on place of pacer Ishant Sharma.

“Medium pacer Ishant Sharma is recovering and won't be available for the second Test of the series to played in Kolkata. BCCI medical Team will continue to monitor his progress. Off spinner Jayant Yadav will replace Ishant for the second Test,” said BCCI.

Gambhir has been selected over Mukund to join Team India in Kolkata on the basis of his fitness report. Gambhir was at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to undergo fitness tests and left the city on Tuesday morning.

Gambhir had played his lasts Test against England in August 2014 and was aavoided by the selectors for the 17 Test matches after that.
