Afzal Guru Event Organizer At JNU Umar Khalid Compared Burhan Wani To Che Guevara

Umar Khalid, one of the organizers of the event to commemorate the alleged judicial killing of 2001 Parliament Attack accused Afzal Guru on February 9 at Jawaharlal Nehru University, which triggered nationwide controversy compared Burhan Wani, a Hizbul Mujahideen commander who had been killed by the security forces earlier, to a Marxist revolutionary in Argentina, Che Guevara through a Facebook post.

Khalid who said that Wani was a revolutionary and was fighting against subjugation, wrote in his Facebook post, “'I don't care if I fall as long as someone else picks up my gun and keeps on shooting.' These were the words of Che Guevara, but could have just been #BurhanWani's too. Burhan wasn't scared of death, he was scared of a life lived in subjugation. He detested it. He lived a free man, died a free man.”

As soon as the post got published, it created a lot of stir as Khalid received huge amount of counter attack from the social media users and some even tagged Delhi Police in their posts claiming for action as his post is against Indian state.

Umar Khalid, who deleted his posts after the attack from the social media users, wrote a new post and answered all those who according to him, tried to troll him on social media using his post. In his new post he mentioned the names of Sameer Rah, Tufail Mattoo, Asiya and Neelofar, alleged victims of Indian Army’s violent rule in Kashmir and said, “Troller army, I accept defeat... I should have joined you in rejoicing his death. From tomorrow, I will join in to satisfy our nationalist mach[o] self. I will celebrate killings, rapes, torture, disappearances, AFSPA and everything else.... But, just one small question my (about to be) fellow nationalists, would that change the ground reality in Kashmir?”

Umar Khalid on Burhan WaniMember of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Saurabh Sharma issued a statement against Umar Khalid’s comments and said, “Umar Khalid's statement in support of terrorist Burhan Wani proves how deep a relationship these people have with terrorists and how close anti-national and terrorist Umar Khalid and his circle are with people from the Valley who were invited on February 9. I demand that the bail of those involved in the February 9 event should be canceled immediately.”
