DU Teachers Protested Against Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani

Union human resource development minister Smriti Irani had to face a protest of Delhi University teachers against revised University Grants Commission (UGC) norms and many were detained by the police at outside of Guru Angad Dev Teaching Center at SGBT Khalsa College, Delhi University (DU) on Friday.

Smriti Irani was present to inaugurate the new center created under MHRD’s Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Training.

Parents at the center opposed the protest by the teachers and expressed their unhappiness by saying they should have helped in the admission process. A DU aspirant at Khalsa College said, “How can they expect us to support them when they are creating problems during admission.”

Meanwhile Smriti Irani, reaching an hour late for the inauguration ceremony of the center named after the second Sikh guru, said, after the inauguration, that as today’s generation is ‘techno-savvy’, the center will help teachers develop their technical skills.

She also confirmed that a national-level competition to create awareness on Baba Banda Singh Bahadur will be conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) soon.
