Three Super Computers In Gujarat Featured In Top IISc Rankings

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has recently listed three super computers from Gujarat in their top 33 super computer rankings in the country based on their performance values, test known as Linpack Benchmark Performance, considering theoretical peak performance as well as systems peak.

Physical Research Laboratory’s super computer from Gujarat ranks at no. 16 in the list. ‘Akash’ of Space Application Center (SPA) and on rank 23 Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) for the Steady State Tokamak-1 reactor.

The rankings considered the processing cores of the supercomputing devices.

According to rankings, super computer at Physical Research Laboratory scored 60 terraflops peak and it has Intel Xeon 12 core processor CPU nodes. “Akash” can perform operations at 36.67 terraflops and it’s powered by 2.3 GHz and 18 core processor nodes. Super computer at IPR, with peak score of 20.71 terraflops, contains 2.3 GHz Dual core 14 cor processor nodes.

The first three supercomputers listed in the rankings are Super Computer Education and Research (SERC) IISc Bangalore, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) Pune and Indian Lattice Gauge Theory Initiative at TIFR.
