PIL Against Pokemon Go For Hurting Religious Sentiments

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in Gujarat High Court against the popular augmented reality game, Pokemon Go for hurting religious sentiments of certain communities as it shows eggs in place of worship.

The PIL has been filed by Alay Anil Dave and is expected to be heard by the bench of Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice Vipul Pancholi on Today (Sept. 7).

In the PIL, the petitioner has added things such as infringement of privacy and life-threat to players, who have to walk around to score a point. The main highlight, however, is the PIL states that the image of eggs shown in the popular mobile game appear in places of worship of different religious groups.

The petitioner has added that as egg is considered as the non-vegetarian food, it’s blasphemous to take non-vegetarian food inside the religious places of Hindus and Jains.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Nachiket Dave said that to find eggs in temples of Hindus and Jains is blasphemous, and therefore my client has sought ban on the game from the country.

In the PIL, San Francisco-based developer of the game, Niantic Inc. as well as the Central and State governments have been made the respondents.
