Pune blasts could have been a lot more devastating

In less than a day after the blasts in Pune had shook the population, experts were baffled after they found that the explosions didn't quite go as planned. The terror attack had gone awry after a few bombs have not been blasted which had prevented great deal of loss of life in the ever busy Jangli Maharaj road.

Officials said that it was due to a flawed bomb design that had fortunately prevented the complete explosions. Had the explosions took place full-fledged as planned, the shrapnel would also have spread and inflicted fatal blows to the victims.

Home ministry officials said that these failed attacks had the potential to provide information that would help in cornering the terrorists group that was unnamed. The preliminary examinations have revealed that at least 2 IEDs had not exploded yet which could have caused a great number of casualties and major damage.

These bombs contained 2 to three detonators, circuit, timer, 9V battery, ball bearings and a yellow glue like substance. It was due to the faulty bomb construction that had saved us from the misfortunes of a devastating blast.

The officials said that there were at least 5 detonators that failed which were all defused at the Shivajinagar Office. The sticky substance was sent to the forensic labs for chemical analysis.

Officials from New Delhi said that the way the terrorists had built and placed the bombs had pointed the needle towards Indian Mujahideen which had used similar techniques in serial blasts in Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi in November, 2007 and in Jaipur in May, 2008.

The union ministers have not taken the failed blasts lightly and said that they would take action against this. Pune police have identified the place where two of the three new bicycles on which the bombs were planted  were purchased. The owner of the shop already provided the details of the men and their appearances while sketches were also completed. The men allegedly spoke Gujarati, the owner told the police.

Dayanand Patil, who was injured in the blasts and his wife are being questioned. His passport was seized by the police as they wanted to find the reason of his visit to either Dubai or Jordan in 2003. The police had not revealed whether they were treating Patil as a suspect in the case or not yet.
