Pune’s ‘Gold Man’ Dutta Phuge whi came in limelight when he shot a photograph of his own wearing gold shirt and accessories a few years ago, beaten to death by a dozen men in front of his son, according to the reports.
A48-year-old, Phuge attacked by his assailants. They dragged him out of his car, struck him with a sickle and pounded him to death with huge stones before escaping, reports said. However, his 22-year-old son was spared by the attackers.
Police said that one of the suspects had invited him for a birthday celebration and motive behind the brutal murder is suspected to be the financial dispute between Phuge and the accused. According to few reports, his nephew is also involved in the case.
He was running a money-lending and chit fund business and reports said that he had been accused of financial bungling.
The member of Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Phuge was photographed few years earlier, wearing 22-carat gold shirt worth over Rs. 1 crore. He grabbed prime time space in various regional news channel as well as on the national media for wearing the world’s most expensive shirt which was made by the 15 workmen from Bengal, according to the reports.
