Dalit Man Found Dead In Police Custody; Police Outpost Suspended

After a Dalit man was found dead in custody, all the 15 policemen of an outpost in Kanpur have suspended and one police has been accused of a murder, reports said. Some policemen are still missing.

The man identified as Kamal Valmiki, a 25-year0old man was called for questioning on Tuesday according to the reports. He was found hanged in the lockup.

Valmiki’s family, who was raged after the incident and stone-pelted at the police station along with few other protesters, has alleged that he was died after the severe beating after he was allegedly taken away by a constable, who is facing a murder case now.

The police has sent the body to the post-mortem under a different name, Raju Mistry. State Police chief, Javed Ahmed while speaking to one of the leading news channels of the country said, “A custody death is absolutely unacceptable. There is no question of not taking action.”

The protesters have demanded investigation into the matter as a man was died in the presence of the whole police outpost.

In the state chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party is already facing a criticism over law and order situation in the state. Apart from that cow vigilantism is also increasing as the cow protectors are allegedly targeting the poor.
