An Indian-American businessman based in Chicago Shalab ‘Shalli ’Kumar born in Ambala, Punjab has created a stir by pledging to contribute $1.1 Million as a political contribution in Trump’s election campaign during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

To follow the complicated campaign contribution rules, Kumar along with his wife contributed around $449,400 to the campaign over the weekend routed through Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC). In an interview to a leading Indian newspaper daily Kumar said, “This is just the beginning. This is not just for Trump but for future US-India relations.”

When asked about some of Trump’s controversial statements about Indian guest workers and immigration, Kumar responded that Trump is much misunderstood man and he has cleared many misunderstandings about him in a 45-minute one-on-one meeting over the weekend. He said, “He will be the most pro-India president in Indo-US history," he maintained. "We want to make the 21st century an India-US century.”

Recently, Kumar had become the famous Hindu preacher in the country by forming Republican Hindu Coalition with support from the former House speaker Newt Gingrich. Kumar has also spoke to Gingrich, his old friend from 1980s, about taking to Trump’s positive outlook towards India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi o the margins of the convention in Cleveland.

“Trump and Modi are a natural fit and will get along with each other,” he said.

An electronic engineer by profession from Punjab Engineering College as well as Illinois Institute of Technology, he has founded a company called AVG Advanced Technologies in the area of automation controls, semiconductors, telecommunications, thick film hybrids, electronic component manufacturing and distribution.

Before becoming a ‘Reagan Democrat’ he, initially was a Democrat inspired by the late President’s support for small businesses.
