TMC Leader Arrested Allegedly For Pressurizing A Trader Who Committed Suicide

A Trinamool Congress leader, Ananta Roy has been arrested by the police on Wednesday allegedly for pressurizing a trader for the repayment of his loans to his businessman-friend after the trader has been found dead in his residence at Sonarpur.

According to the reports, Roy had mediated between the two parties, his businessman friend Manoj Punja and his business associate Biswajit Roy for the repayment of loan of Rs. 61,000. Roy had threatened Biswajit for the repayment of loans to Manoj. Reports said that Biswajit was running a small manufacturing business in his house.

The police has arrested Ananta Roy as well as Manoj Punja and both of the accused have been charged with abatement of suicide and criminal conspiracy.

Biswajit’s wife said that Roy had summoned her husband to a local club and threatened him. She said, “When my husband returned from the meeting, he was very upset. The next morning we found him hanging.”

Police said, “We have found evidence that the councillor was involved in intimidating Biswajit. Along with his associates, he had called Biswajit to a local club and forced him to pay.When Biswajit expressed his inability, the councillor told him to sell off his land and repay the debt. Biswajit who was under tremendous pressure, committed suicide the following day.”
