Eminent Writer Mahasweta Devi Passed Away In Kolkata

Acclaimed Writer and a social activist Mahasweta Devi died on Thursday at the age of 90. Reports said, she had suffered a majot heart attack on July 23. Devi was the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Vibhushan, Jnanpith and Magsaysay Award along with several others.

Reports said that she was being treated at city’s Belle Vue Clinic for the past two months. Doctors said she had been facing illnesses related to old age. Due to the blood infection and the kidney failure her condition continued to deteriorate.

Some of her famous works include, Hajar Chaurashir Maa, Breast Stories and Tin Korir Sadh. Her works are also been adapted into films over the years. The writer was also knows for her contribution towards the welfare of the tribal people.  

Devi had started writing in 60s. She had also taught in a college on the outskirts of the city of Kolkata. Her stories are inspired by the everyday realities she saw around herself in rural Bengal.

West Bengal chief minister while expressing grief over the death of an eminent writer tweeted,
