Last Ship In WJFAC, Indian Navy High Speed OPV INS Tarasa Launched

A high speed Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) INS Tarasa, being built by the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) under the series Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts (WJFAC), for Indian Navy has been launched in the city on Thursday.

The ship was launched at the hands of Aruna Korade, wife of Vice Admiral Jaywant Korade who is Navy’s controller of logistics. The ship will be handed over to the Indian Navy after it fitted out at the GRSE’s Raja Bagan Dockyard. INS Tarasa is an improved variant of the Car-Nicobar-class high-speed OPVs.

It has been build to reach the maximum speed of 35 knots with an endurance of nearly 2,000 nautical miles at 12-14 knots. The Ship has 315 tonne of displacement. It has been powered with 4,000 series MTU engines with advanced machinery control system. It will be having CRN-91 indigenous 30mm gun with optronic pedestal and for effective surveillance it will be equipped with latest communication equipments and radars.
