PV Sindhu Enters Finals Of Women’s Singles Badminton At Rio Olympics

Indian woman shuttler PV Sindhu storms into the final of women’s singles event of the badminton at Rio Olympics and has assured a medal for the country. Sindhu defeated Japan’s 21-year-old badminton player world no. 6 Nozomi Okuhara in straight sets, 21-19 and 21-20 in a 51 minutes long women’s singles semi finals. Sindhu has now become the first Indian player to enter the finals of badminton at the Olympic games.

Sindhu will now face World no. 1 Spanish shuttler Carolina Marin on Friday. Sindhu had beaten Marin 21-15, 18-21, 21-17 in a 72-minute long Denmark Open’s final last year, registering her first win over Marin among the four matches they have played against each other.

Okuhara was continuously pushed back by Sindhu throughout the match. She showed some incredible skills with her beautiful backhand flicks and cross-court smashes. However, at one stage Okuhara played really well and came closer to Sindhu at 13-15. But Sindhu managed to bag the first game after 27 minutes 21-19.

In the second game as well, story remained the same as Sindhu managed to take control of the game despite strong fightback from Okuhara. She erupted in joy after smashing a winning shot making it 21-10.

Earlier, she had beaten Wang Yihan of China in the quarter finals 22-20, 21-19 in a thrilling battle and became the second Indian badminton player to reach top four at Olympic games after Saina Nehwal.
