The new year didn't start very well for Mamata Banarjee and a few other party members while a few TMC members had gone off limits enjoying the new year. The TMC supremo had to face the shame when a few of her partymen went around throwing money at the hardly dressed women, as they danced a few salacious steps.

While the whole city now has a bad impression on the party members for doing so, a few members of the party like Arabul Islam was not deterred to encourage the dance show. He said it was just a small dance show and all the people like it.

The police too arrived on the scene 4 hours after the dance programs started though the party was organized just around the corner. It was only after the video was being aired by television news channels that they intervened and intercepted the proceedings at the party. The official cause however was that they had not taken the permission for the open air program.

This event marked the most shameful cultural decadence in the party which could spell doom for the party.

12 hours later, MP Derek O Brian made a statement condemning the vulgarity of the show. Meer Taheer Ali was suspended from the party by Mamatha Banarjee because he was seen several times appearing on stage and showering money on the girls. Ironically he is the secretary of the local girl's school.

All these were happening in the city while the the residents of the city were praying for Nirbhaya, the Delhi gang rape case victim who passed away earlier.
