Busted: Engineering Exam Paper Leak, 8 Arrested

The Bhandup police of the city today successfully blocked an engineering answer paper sheet leak and arrested eight persons, including 4 clerks, three peons and the answer sheets keeper. Police have also seized 92 answer sheets from the accused. They have been charged under cheating, according to the police. The answer sheets belong to the engineering faculty of the prestigious Mumbai University and police suspects that few students are also involved in the case.

“The students would send their hall ticket photo through Whatsapp to the accused and they would bring the answer sheets out. Later the students would sit and write in it,” said the police explaining the procedure.

Police further added, “the accused would get between Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per answer sheet for this crime. In some cases the answer sheets were even taken to students' residences where they completed the papers.”

The police had received the information that some students left the examination hall without writing the papers and on that information the investigation began.

“Such students would just fill their attendance and leave the answer sheet empty. They would later write these papers,” said the police.

As per the details on the answer sheets, they belong to the exam centers in Kamothe, Kharghar, Karjat and Airoli.
