Hindus cannot celebrate Durga puja in West Bengal village

There is a village in Mamata Banerjee ruled West Bengal where Hindus are not allowed to celebrate Durga puja. The villagers have been requesting to the authorities since three years to allow them to revere deities, but they have been repeatedly denied the permission. The authorities gave no formal reason why they are not allowing the puja. Police of the area said that observing Durga puja will disturb communal harmony in the area.

This is happening in the Nalhati village in Birbhum district of West Bengal. The so called secular liberals, journalists and the media who were beating their chests, day in and out over various issues such as Beef, Dadri and Dalits and seek to put PM Narendra Modi in the dock, have maintained a stoic silence over the Durga Puja ban in a West Bengal village.

Around 300 Hindu families have been banned from praying or organising Durga Puja at Nalhati village in Birbhum district of West Bengal for the last three years from 2012. The illegal Bangladeshi immigrant Muslims rule the roost in the region. The Muslims in the village claim that they feel offended by Durga Puja.

Villagers had represented that women have to travel 4-5 km to break their fasts in another temple, so please allow them to revere deities in the village itself. But authorities gave two line reply saying that they can't give permission.

The villagers told on camera that police had warned them to comply with the ban or face serious consequences. The Hindu villagers have even written to the District Magistrate, seeking permission to hold Durga Puja, but in vain.

It is mysterious that the authors and writers who were targeting Modi Government for increasing incidents of religious intolerance in the country, why they are maintaining a stoic silence when Hindus who were hurt.

State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has expressed her opinion on growing instances of intolerance in the society, has so far maintained silence on the issue.
