Mumbai acquire all women beat marshal team to tackle crime against women

The crime rate has been continuously growing on women, in-order to take preventive measures Mumbai police on Wednesday got all-women beat marshal squads. The women squad will patrol the city streets on bikes to embark upon crime against women.

R R Patil the Home Minister of Maharashtra at the event held at Bombay Police Gymkhana said that "Even as some serious crimes occurred here, if you go by the statistics, Mumbai and Maharashtra are considered to be safest in the country. By introducing 205 women beat marshals, Mumbai police stood first in the country to take up such initiative and I am sure the squads will bring down crimes against women and make women feel more safe in the city,"

Patil also promised the women squad that if any mistake happens while performing their duty he will be supporting them in any aspects. Around 4500 female police personnel have joined the department this year and in the coming four years he is aiming to take around 20,000 women personnel in the department.

"There are 747 mobile vans and 944 male beat marshals. In addition to this we now have the women beat marshals. The 205 female personnel were handpicked and imparted rigorous training, including riding bikes, using firearms, unarmed combat, wire-less communication and so on," Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said at the event.
