Opposition Set To Attack Government Over Notes Ban; Congress Issues Whip

All the opposition parties will be coordinating the attack on government over the decision of banning old notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 in the parliament today in the ongoing winter session. The main opposition Congress has issued a whip for all its parliamentarians. The opposition parties are expected to demand an investigation into the allegations that the decision of  notes ban was leaked to the BJP and its associates.

According to the sources in the opposition camp, among all the opposition parties, there is an unanimity over the need of investigation into the prior information of the decision, which allowed them to convert their unaccounted wealth.

A senior opposition leader has been quoted by saying, “Many parties are determined to take this matter of selective leakage to the masses and jointly take on the government in parliament. There are other worrisome aspects of the demonetisation decision which we will raise in both Houses of parliament.”

The Congress is leading the attack with the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Deputy Leader Anand Sharma along with the leaders of other opposition parties.

Sources have confirmed that all the opposition parties including Trinamool Congress, Janata Dal (United), Bahujan Samaj Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Samajwadi Party and all the Left are united against the government’s decision. To Intensify the attack, Congress has already issued a whip ensuring the presence of all its members in both the houses of the Parliament.

Congress is also expected to hold a special meeting which is expected to be chaired by the party vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile, the opposition has stopped the proceedings in the parliament over the issue of notes ban so far and have demanded the response of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue.
