Ex-Serviceman Committed Suicide After Writing Letter On OROP To Parrikar

In a shocking incident occurred in New Delhi, an ex-serviceman has committed suicide at Jantar Mantar after writing a letter to Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar on the issue of One Rank, One Pension (OROP).

According to the reports, the ex serviceman, identified as Ram Kishan Grewal, former Jawan from Bhiwani district in Haryana who committed suicide had left the note, which stated read that he took the extreme step for the Indian soldiers.

 

The family of Grewal has also blames the Center for the former Jawan’s suicide. Reports saod that Grewal had also written to the Union Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar on the issue.

He had written, “Please pay heed to out demands.”

In the letter, he further complained that the pension received by the servicemen currently is still low and he has complained that the former colleagues of him who had the same rank are getting pension more than him just because the problems in the current pension scheme. He has added that there are many other like him who has not received hike in their pension.

A news agency has quoted Grewal’s son as saying, “He called us and informed that he is committing suicide as the government has failed to fulfill their demands related to OROP.”

 

 

The opposition parties have also criticizing the government over Grewal’s suicide. Delhi Chief Minister as well as the President of Aam Aadmi Party has lashed out the Central government as well as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the suicide.
