Security Forces Killed 18 Maoists In Encounter

The Odisha Police has killed eighteen members of the banned CPI (Maoists) in an operation conducted by the combined team of AP and Odisha Police near Jantri in Malkangiri district of Odisha in early hours of Monday.

According to the Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev, who was quoted by a leading newspaper saying it was a joint operation conducted by the AP and Odisha Police, few top guns of the banned party might be among the dead. However, it would take some time to confirm the same.

The operation is considered as the biggest in Malkangiri area of Odisha and overall second major encounter. Earlier in September 2013, thirteen Maoists were killed in Podia block of Malkangiri district, reports said.
