No Urgent To Hear Asaram’s Bail Plea: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court had examined the medical reports of Godman Asaram Bapu after his health check-up by the AIIMS physicians and stated that it’s not urgent to hear the interim bail plea as his health is stable.

The bench of justices added that it would not pass any order without hearing the stand of the Rajasthan government and issued notice to the state to file response within a week.

The 79-year-old Godman, who is accused of rape and lodged in Jodhpur Jail in a rape case had approached the Supreme Court for the bail on medical grounds. The Court had also directed the a team of physicians in AIIMS in Delhi to conduct medical tests on Asaram and allowed him to take a flight to the capital with the police escort to get himself examined. However the court has accepted the demand of early hearing by the counsels of Asaram, Soli Sorabjee and Raju Ramachandran and has posted the case for October 24.

Earlier attempts made by Asaram to get bail have been failed, including three with the Supreme Court. Asaram is also facing charges of rape in another case in Surat, Gujarat and has been in jail since September 2013.

In his fresh attempt to get bail, Asaram has filed petition in the Supreme Court. His petition reads, “The petitioner is suffering with the chronic disease of trigeminal neuralgia for which he needs to undergo medical treatment which is not available at district hospital, Jodhpur, and for which he needs to be treated at any speciality hospital.”
