As many as six new airlines including Hyderabad based Turbo Megha Airways, which is partly owned by Tollywood Mega Star Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja, are hitting the skies as they receive flying license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation regulator.

This results in a total of four companies being granted a flying license to launch a regional airline in the past two years. For International business, eight new airlines are ready to take off this fiscal year including Tata Sons Ltd’s low-cost joint venture (JV) with Air Asia Bhd that has already started flights and its premium JV with Singapore Airlines Ltd (SIA), expected to launch operations in October.

Ram Charan’s co-owned Turbo Megha would operate the regional airline under the brand name Trujet.

Director General of Civil Aviation M Sathiyavathi handed over the air operator permit to Turbo Megha's managing director, V Umesh, in the presence of Civil Aviation Minister Gajapathi Raju at a function held here.

The program was also attended by Aviation Secretary Rajiv Nayan Choubey and other senior ministry officials.

"We welcome the new airline. It plans to operate some shuttle services during the forthcoming Maha Pushkarna at Godavari before the commencement of actual operations," Mr Raju said.

Mr Umesh said that the new carrier has already acquired two 72-seater ATR-72 planes and would induct three more by January next year.

Trujet would operate regional air services to Rajhmundry, Bengaluru and Chennai from its base Hyderabad, he said, adding that the company has seen an initial investment of $20 million.

Many wonder how Chiranjeevi manages the airlines as the liquor baron Kingfisher’s sudden downfall garnered many criticisms from all over the nation. But it’s a well-known fact that Kingfisher broke just because of Vijay Mallya’s arrogant attitude, but not because of customers. So, there are no chances of such problems in Turbo Megha’s case
