Food Crisis In Saudi Arabia: After V K Singh’s Visit, Saudi Govt. Agrees To Help Indians

Saudi Arabia government on Wednesday agreed to help the thousands of Indians who are facing a major food crisis in Saudi Arabia as they don’t have money to buy food after their job termination due to the slow-financial condition of the country.

Minister of State for External Affairs Gen. V K Singh arrived the country in the evening of Wednesday and held talks with Saudi labor minister Mufrej Al Haqbani, who have promised quick action to resolve difficulties being faced by around 7,000 Indians.

Ge. V K Singh said, “We discussed all the issues related to Indian workers. It was brought out that the problem is because of one company which has not provided the humanitarian facilities as per the law of the land.”

“The government of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has taken serious note of this lapse and have taken immediate action to ensure that all camps where Indian workers were staying are provided facilities like medical, food, hygiene and sanitation,” he added.

V K Singh also said that he is satisfied over Haqbani’s response and was thankful to the Saudi government for ‘very positive action and magnanimous attitude’.

By saying that the Saudi government is ready to provide special passage for Indians in the country who wants to go back to India and will honor the claims on the companies which is filed by the workers which have defaulted their payments, he said, “They have also agreed to allow transfer (of employees) to any other company within Saudi Arabia. Necessary action is in hand by the embassy of India to prepare suitable lists for filing claims as well as for people to go back. I am thankful to the Saudi government for very positive action and magnanimous attitude exhibited.”
