Families That Plan Outing Together Share Healthier Relationships, States A Research

A research by University of Illinois College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences has stated that spending time together with the family at small picnics or at an outing helps to generate strong bond between the family members.

The leader of the study Diana Izenstark and and co-author Aaron Ebata had accessed and analyzed exiting studies the role family in using natural environments on the basis of attention restoration theory, family routines and rituals perspective.

Diana Izenstark, who is also a doctoral candidate in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, said, “When your attention is restored, you’re able to pick up on social cues more easily, you feel less irritable, and you have more self control. All of these are variables that can help you get along better with other.”

“Many different types of leisure activities are associated with the variety of families’ functioning outcomes,” Said Ebata.

He added, “We want to encourage families, even if you have only 20 minutes to spend together and you want to maximize the benefit of that time for your family, go take a walk in nature together.”

The study says that although leisure activities are one of the context where families spend time together today, the activities in nature have greater positive outcomes than other leisure contexts.
