Eating Apple, Lettuce And Mint Helps In Reducing Garlic Breath

According to the researchers in the Ohio State University, it was found that although garlic has huge qualities which are very helpful for human’s body, many people just avoid eating garlic due to its stingy bad breath it produces. The study, now, has found that eating apple, mint, or lettuce right after garlic helps in reducing the pungent smell.

Study shows that garlic breath caused by volatiles, such as diallyl disulfide, allyl mercaptan, allyl methyl disulfide, and allyl methyl sulfide.

Under the study, the participants were given three grams of softneck garlic cloves to chew for 25 seconds and then water and raw, juiced or heated apple, raw or heated lettuce, raw or juiced mint leaves and the green tea.

Through the Ion Flow tube Mass Spectrometry level of volatiles were measured after consumption.

The findings showed that the raw apple and raw lettuce decreased the concentration of volatiles in garlic breath by 50 percent compared to water, 30 percent.

Researchers said that the enzymes in the raw food helps in deodorizing the breath as well as phenolics in the raw foods destroy the volaties.
