Story

The real-life story of the ‘mountain man’ who toiled for more than 20 years trying to hack a path through hard rock with his humble tools, and indomitable spirit.

The story ‘inspired’ from Dashrath Manjhi, and not ‘based’ on, and it will have to feature factual information without a possibility to dramatise is akin to other Ketan Mehta’s films.

Even though there were performances in place, the characters lacked dimensions. The film was not deep enough and feels flat and unreal at regular intervals.

Analysis

Manjhi Movie Review

Nawazuddin Siddiqui steals the show and becomes the saving grace of the film. He is thoroughly watchable and put up a good show as good acting is expected out of him.

Tigmanshu Dhulia essayed the role of a vicious Thakur and Pankaj Tripathi, his son, who played a vicious and greedy village official. They did a decent job by giving the overall feel of village politics.

The village Zamindar (Tigmanshu Dhulia) commits atrocities of the kind that makes your stomach churn.

Radhika Apte has portrayed the role decent enough and is convincing.

Performance

You can watch two films by paying for one, if you think it’s awesome, you will be proved wrong. Post-Intermission, the film becomes tedious and the simple film making style will become predictable and bore.

As the film progresses, Dashrath ages dramatically with all the fuzzed up wigs and beards looking awfully glued.

With all in place, the film does not qualify to receive any superlatives because of the inconsistency in the pace.

Final Word

Some good parts Some really bad parts. If it is for Nawazuddin Siddiqui, it is a one time watch. Otherwise, you can give it a miss.
