Four athletes of Rio Olympics 2016, including silver medalist P.V. Sindhu, Bronze medal winner Sakshi Malik, shooter Jitu Rai and gymnast Dipa Karmakar conferred with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awards on Monday from President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi.

The award ceremony also watched fifteen other sportsperson winning Arjuna Award and three with Dhyan Chand Award. Six coaches of different field won Dronacharya award.  

The Punjabi University of Patiala was awarded the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) trophy 2015-16.

The Khel Ratna awardees will get Rs. 7.5 lakh with a medal and citation. The Arjuna, Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand awardees received statuettes, certificates and cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh each.

The selection committee for choosing players for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and the Arjuna Award was headed by Justice S. K. Agarwal, a retired Delhi High Court Judge whereas M.C. Mary Kom headed the selection committee for Dronacharya Award and Dhyan Chnad Award.
