All the agencies which are in possession of an individual’s Aadhaar number will not be allowed to publish or post the information publicly, confirms government.

The government has asked the agencies to ensure the security and confidentiality of the 12-digit number under the Aadhaar Act.

According to the rules, the biometric information of an individual received the authority cannot be shared with anyone for any reason. Any violations of the Aadhaar Act would constitute an offense and is punishable under the act.

The rule further states that it I mandatory for the agencies to specify whether submission of the number or proof of Aadhaar is mandatory or voluntary.

The agencies, now, also need to obtain consent of the Aadhaar number holder for collection, storage and use of the same for specified purposes.

Confidentiality of the Aadhaar number is an important issue as it contains all the biometric information of an individual, who is the holder of the number.
