Investigation Agencies Are Probing Zakir Naik’s Finances From Saudi Arabia and United Kingdom

Islamic preacher who came under scanner when his name of emerged after two terrorists’ caught in Dhaka attacks claimed to have been inspired by his speeches, Zakir Naik’s finances are in the eyes of the investigative agencies and they are probing into it, according to reports.

Reports said, Zakir Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) is registered under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) and has received about 15 crore in a span of four to five years from his finances especially in Saudi Arabia and United Kingdom, in 2012.

A home ministry official said, “Some of the donors are under scanner and we are investigating whether the funds were used for the purpose stated or diverted to other areas.”

Along with this, investigative agencies are analyzing his speeches that allegedly have inspired terrorist. Videos of his speeches, which has been available on YouTube and social media, have become extremely popular among the section of the Muslim community, according to the reports.

After Bangladesh government’s move to ban his television channel Peace TV, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is also in discussion over whether the ban should be imposed on Peace TV in India. However, Zakir Naik, through a statement has dismissed all reports of his speeches to have inspired terrorism. He had said, “There is not a single talk of mine where I encouraged one to kill another, whether Muslim or non-Muslim.” Earlier the preacher who is banned in United Kingdom, Malaysia etc. had delayed his return to India from Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, investigative agencies are analyzing all such activities which is looking suspicious and contrary to FCRA and according to the sources, some action is expected on the foreign funding aspect.

Zakir Naik, who is under tremendous fire have decided to speak to media over his association with Dhaka attack through Skype on July 14. His spokesperson said that the press conference will be addressed by Bollywood members, lawyers and members of NGOs.
