Shimon Peres emphasizes on possibility of Iraq splitting

The media reported in Washington that Israeli President Shimon Peres cautioned during Wednesday that he was not sure Iraq could remain a united country surrounded by growing sectarian violence.

Xinhua reported that Peres made the remarks during his meet with US President Barack Obama at the White House. Peres is known to be in the US on an official visit.

Peres told Obama, according to the news website The Hill that the best thing that could have happened was that Iraq remain a united country. Moreover, he said yet he wonder if it's possible. He added that to take up such action one needs to be ready to stand a mighty army to force all the three parties together. He don't see the army to do it and neither the parties will harmonize in opinion to it.

Additionally known that Peres and Obama also met with American Jewish community leaders, had a working lunch, in addition to having brief talks in the Oval Office Wednesday. Interestingly, Peres will finish his final term as president next month subsequent to a 65-year political career. US Congress is anticipated to present him with the Congressional Gold Medal during Thursday. --IANS
