Army Chief Withdraws his petition on Court’s suggestion

Indian Army Chief General VK Singh finally had to withdraw his petition against the Government decision to take his date of birth as 10th May1950 as per which he has to retire on May 10th of this year.  After a long debate and court’s inquisitive but tough questioning, Supreme Court felt that it is not the Army that erroneously made a mistake in their records.  General VK Singh should have got the correction of his date of birth be made earlier.  More over, court observed when the General accepted his date birth as 10th of May 1950 in 2008 and in 2009, he should honor his statement.

Although there was debate and probing questions that went on before the lunch break, when the court reopened at 2 pm, Court advised the petitioner to withdraw it.  Court also added that the Government has full faith in him in spite of the legal battle and he can continue his services.  Court also asker the General why UPSC record was not corrected and what he would do if they do not accept to correct.  A disappointed General Singh withdrew his petition and court declared that the petition is disposed due to withdrawal.  Government also withdrew its order to change the General’s date of birth to 10th May 1950 altering 10th May 1951.
